The Match: The University of Utah volleyball team concludes its 2013 regular season by hosting Oregon State this afternoon in the Huntsman Center.
The Utes were 25th in the NCAA's latest RPI rankings and currently sport an 18-11 overall record and a 7-10 mark in Pac-12 play, which finds them in an eighth-place tie with Arizona State in the standings.
Eighteen wins for Utah is the most for the program since 2008.
Senior Day festivities will be held before Utah's regular-season home finale on Sunday against Oregon State, which will include the Odale sisters (Morgan and McKenzie) singing the national anthem. First serve against the Beavers is set for 12 p.m. MT.
About Friday Night: Despite a solid nine-kill, nine-dig performance from senior outside hitter Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho), Utah fell in a four-set decision to Oregon (25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 25-15) on Friday in its return match to Crimson Court.
The program's first match in Crimson Court in nearly a calendar year (Nov. 23, 2012) saw Utah feature a balanced attack as four players had at least eight kills.
Three Utes tied for team-high honors with nine kills apiece on Friday against the Ducks: Odale, junior right-side hitter Shelby Dalton (Moab, Utah) and senior middle blocker Erin Redd-Brandon (Spanish Fork, Utah).
Nikki Sim: In the back row of Utah's inaugural Pac-12 team during the 2011 season, Sim finished 10th in the league with 3.89 digs per set and had 3.65 digs per set in league matches. The Salt Lake City, Utah native had 405 digs, good for the seventh-highest single-season total in school history. In 2012, Sim led team with 2.75 digs per set and had 11 double-figure-dig matches, while leading or tying for team lead in digs 10 matches.
Morgan Odale: In four years as a starter, Odale has played in 124 matches with 123 starts. She has played at a high level and has been a mentally tough competitor who has been in the battles as Utah's go-to player with the game on the line. She is just the third player in school history to join three of Utah's milestone clubs and stands seven kills away from becoming fourth in school history in career kills. She is also fifth in digs and sixth in career aces to go with 29 career double-doubles.
Erin Redd-Brandon: Redd-Brandon has been one of the top blockers in the Pac-12 over the last three seasons. Over her career, Redd-Brandon has made 122 starts and is fourth in school history in career total blocks and block assists. She is 12th in school history in career kills is 12th in school history and became the 14th member of Utah's 1,000-kill club Oct. 18 at Oregon State as part of a 10-kill, 10-block performance during Utah's 3-1 win in Corvallis, which was her fourth double-double of 2013 and the seventh of her career. She became the first Ute to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week recognition as she was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2 and repeated honor on Oct. 28.
