SANTA CLARA, Calif.—The No. 19-ranked Utah football team (8-4, 5-4 Pac-12) will play Indiana (6-6, 4-5 Big Ten) in the Foster Farms Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 28 in Santa Clara, Calif. The game will kick off at 5:30 p.m. PT/6:30 p.m. MT in Levi's Stadium and will be televised on FOX.
Â
Utah finished third in the Pac-12 South Division, while the Hoosiers were fourth in the Big Ten East.
Â
This marks Utah's second appearance in the Bay Area bowl game, but its first under the current Foster Farms' sponsorship at Levi's Stadium. Utah beat No. 24 Georgia Tech in 2005 at AT&T Park in what was then known as the Emerald Bowl. The 38-10 win came in Kyle Whittingham's first bowl game as Utah's head coach (he and Urban Meyer were co-coaches of Utah's Fiesta Bowl win the year previously). Whittingham currently has the best bowl winning percentage (90%) in NCAA history with a 9-1 postseason record.
Â
"The Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara is a great destination for our players and our fans," said Whittingham. "This will be our second trip to the Bay Area in the postseason, after playing there in 2005, and we are looking forward to going back. We're excited to be playing Indiana as we rarely get the opportunity to play teams out of the Big Ten."
Â
Utah holds a 2-1 series lead over Indiana, losing in 1975 and winning a home-and-home series in 2001 and 2002 with Whittingham as the defensive coordinator. The Utes are 9-12 all-time against Big Ten schools and Whittingham is 3-0 (beat Michigan in 2008, 2014 and 2015).
Â
"It's been an exciting season and this is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to enjoy the bowl experience," said Utah Director of Athletics Dr. Chris Hill. "This is a great destination, not only for our local fans, but also for our many alumni in the Bay Area. It will be fun for all of us to play a Big Ten school."
