"It was a typical opening weekend," Utah head coach
Bill Kinneberg said. "We have a little rust in some areas. Overall it was a pretty good weekend, winning two games on the road. It was nice to see some guys swing the bat as well as they did. Some guys really struggled though, and we'll see much better pitching this week so that will be a little more of a challenge. We had some good pitching performances and some average pitching performances, which is to be expected the first week. Rebar was a real force for us, but I'd like to see our pitchers have a better percentage of strikes and get ahead of hitters. Defensively, we held our own. There were a lot of positives, but there are definitely things we need to work on and shore up."
Ohio State went 2-2 during its opening weekend with wins against Kansas State and Delaware and losses to Pittsburgh and Kansas State.
Nebraska went 1-1 last weekend against UC Riverside with two games of the series being rained out.
