CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Utah senior linebacker Jared Norris is on the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to the nation's most outstanding defensive player. Norris has been named to three preseason watch lists this year, which includes the Bednarik Award (Defensive Player of the Year) and the Lott Trophy (Defensive Best in Character and Performance).
Norris, Utah's leading tackler a year ago with 116 stops, finished third in the Pac-12 in tackles per game (8.9) and was fourth in total tackles (116). He was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 and was the Las Vegas Bowl Defensive "Out-Performer" of the game. Norris has started since his sophomore season.
Five finalists for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy will be selected on Nov. 19 with the winner announced on Dec. 7.
Also named to preseason watch lists this year are Devontae Booker (Maxwell Award - College Player of the Year), Tom Hackett (Ray Guy Award - Punter), Andy Phillips (Lou Groza Award - Kicker) and Siaosi Aiono (Rimington Trophy - Center).
