Utes score first 35 points of the game on way to 48-14 win
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- The Utah football team shined on both sides of the ball in a dominating 48-14 win over West Virginia on Saturday in front of 53,965 fans at Milan Puskar Stadium.
The Utes improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 Conference play, while West Virginia drops to 2-3 and 0-2 in conference action.
Utah used a stellar first half to build a four-score lead, finding the end zone on four of five possessions and shutting out the Mountaineers with a smothering defensive effort. The Utes limited West Virginia to 95 total yards in the opening half and just 22 passing yards, stopping the home squad on six of their nine third-down tries.Â
The Utes held WVU to just 85 yards through the air on 6-of-13 passing, the fewest passing yards allowed by Utah this season, the third time since the start of the 2024 campaign that Utah has held an opponent under 100 passing yards.Â
Utah outgained West Virginia 532 to 346 on Saturday and have now eclipsed 490 yards of total offense in four of the first five games in 2025. Utah converted on 8-of-13 third-down tries while holding the Mountaineers to just 4-of-14. The Utes scored on eight of their nine drives on the day, coming away with points on all seven trips to the red zone.
Devon Dampier put together a career day leading the offense, completing 21-of-26 passes for 237 yards and a career-high four passing touchdowns, while rushing for 33 yards and a score on 11 carries in three quarters of action.Â
Dampier connected with a different receiver for all four scores. Dallin Bentley, JJ Buchanan, Ryan Davis and Wayshawn Parker each caught a touchdown pass, the first time since 2022 that four different Utes tallied touchdown grabs. Bryce Duke also hauled in a touchdown from Byrd Ficklin late in the fourth quarter.
Davis led the wide receiver room with seven catches for 107 yards. Bentley recorded five catches for 59 yards.
Parker also tallied nine carries for a team-high 66 yards, while NaQuari Rogers rushed 13 times for 61 yards.Â
Lander Barton and Jonah Lea'ea led the defensive effort for the Utes, each tallying a season-high eight tackles. Barton and John Henry Daley combined for a sack, while Lea'ea added a forced fumble.
Daley, who entered Saturday as the nation's sack leader, logged a career-high seven tackles, including five solo stops.
Utah has now scored 30-plus points in all three of its road contests this season, the first time a Utah squad has done so since the 1994 season.
