SALT LAKE CITY—In the wake of the 2017 NFL Draft, which saw a school-record eight Utes selected, seven more 2016 Utah football graduates have signed undrafted free agent contracts. Defensive end Hunter Dimick (Jacksonville), long snapper Chase Dominguez (New Orleans), wide receiver Tim Patrick (Baltimore), kicker Andy Phillips (Chicago), defensive back Reggie Porter (Indianapolis), defensive tackle Pasoni Tasini (Arizona) and safety Jason Thompson (New England) are hoping to add to the 11 Utah undrafted free agents on current NFL rosters.
Dimick (6-3, 272) was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection as a senior and made three major All-America teams (second team Walter Camp and FWAA; third team AP). Dimick's 14.5 sacks led the Pac-12 and ranked third in the nation and his 20.0 tackles for loss also was tops in the Pac-12. A 2016 Ted Hendricks Award finalist as the country's best defensive end, Dimick set the Utah career record for sacks (29.5), while his 44.0 career tackles for loss tied for third in school history.
Dominguez, a Phil Steele third-team special teams' All-American in 2016, handled every snap for Utah's punts and kickoffs from 2013-16, playing in all 51 games over his four-year career. He snapped 559 times in his career (283 punts, 100 field goals, 176 PAT).
Patrick (6-2, 215), though hampered by injuries, led the 2016 Utes in receptions (45), yards (711) and touchdown catches (5). He had three 100-yard receiving games his senior season: 121 vs. San Jose State, 105 vs. Southern Utah and 100 vs. USC (including a game-winning catch with 0:16 left). He ranked sixth in the Pac-12 in yards per catch (15.8).
Phillips, the most prolific kicker in Utah history, was a four-time All-Pac-12 selection (first team in 2014) and four-time Lou Groza Award semifinalist. He was named a 2015 second-team All-American by CBS.com. Phillips handled all of Utah's field goal attempts from 2013-16 and set Utah career records for field goals made (84), field goal attempts (100), points scored (427) and points scored per game (8.4). His 84.0 career field goal percentage ranks third all-time at Utah and he made 36-of-48 (75%) of his kicks from 40+ yards (long of 53).
Porter (5-11, 185) started at cornerback his last two seasons and finished with 16 career pass breakups. As a junior in 2016, he led Utah and tied for second in the Pac-12 with 11 pass breakups. He twice tied the school record for most pass breakups in a game with four.
Tasini (6-3, 295) was a dominating force in the middle as a senior when he was named honorable mention All-Pac-12. His 35 total tackles included 9.5 tackles for loss (1.5 sacks). He also had six pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a safety. In Utah's win over Indiana in the Foster Farms bowl, Tasini had four tackles, a forced fumble and two pass breakups.
Thompson (6-2, 208) caught the NFL scouts' eyes for his exceptional athletic ability. A Wyoming transfer, Thompson came to Utah as a quarterback before moving to safety, where he played his last two seasons.
